We have been busy working on the detailed design for the contemporary 4 bedroom detached house in the Old Town area of Swindon that was granted planning permission at the start of the year. It has been a really interesting project to detail and we have worked closely with the structural engineer to achieve the large open plan living areas that are often seen in contemporary house of this type. A particular design feature is the use of floor to ceiling glazing that incorporate large sliding doors and frameless glazed corners.
The design was strongly commended by the Swindon Borough Councils urban design advisor during the planning approval process and it was encouraging to see a local planning authority supporting the use of contemporary architecture in established residential areas. The building concept is simple with a rendered first floor overhanging a solid limestone base. The building is designed to appear solid to the front but with more transparency and glazing to the full width of the ground floor to the rear. This is one of a number of large contemporary houses that we are currently working on and that are due to complete in 2015.
Thinking Buildings recently appointed the contractor and we are really looking forward to getting started on site in September … Pictures to follow.
