We always keep an eye on changes to the planning rules which might prove interesting to our clients.
In 2013 temporary permitted development rights enabled offices to be converted to new homes without having to apply for planning permission. This enabled almost 4,000 conversions to go-ahead. These rights were set to expire on 30 May 2016.
The Government has now confirmed that these permitted development rights will now be made permanent. In future the rules will also allow the demolition of office buildings and new building for residential use. New permitted development rights may also enable the change of use of light industrial buildings and launderettes to new homes.
