Facade Depth, Shadow And Contrast Creates Beautiful Buildings

This image, taken in France, is a great example of how facade depth, set back and relief creates beautiful buildings. Admittedly this is an elaborate example but a  good every day tip is to make sure that doors and windows are well set back into their openings. We advise that a minimum 85mm window set back will provide a much better looking building and it doesn’t cost a penny to achieve – just a case of adopting sound design principles. If only the volume house builders understood this simple principle and the architectural world would be be a better place without the paper thin facades we see in current housing estates.
