We’re delighted to announce the completion of a new school building for Ibstock Primary School in Leicestershire. Admittedly it’s been finished a while now, but we’d still like to share this with you.

The school is primarily Victorian with traditional red brick walls (as you would expect in Ibstock, the home of Ibstock Bricks) with a slate roof. The new building is a stand-alone build to replace a single-storey block. We were keen to develop a new distinctive building which would be bold and fun within a Primary School environment. We think this has achieved this.

The building was constructed using a modular construction process by Ideal Building Systems (http://www.idealbuildingsystems.co.uk/) managed by Willmott Dixon.

What Should A School Building Look Like?

A significant number of our Junior and Infant school buildings in the UK date back to the Victorian era, especially those in more rural locations. There has been a lot of talk in recent weeks leading up to the election of spending on schools. At some point many of these buildings will need replacing, but what should a new school look like? Should it be traditional, built from brick or should we be designing more fun, vibrant and inspiring buildings?
