Thinking Buildings has recently been granted planning permission for this new build 4 bedroom detached contemporary house.
This planning approval goes to show that modern design can be designed successfully within existing residential areas. The key to success is having the correct approach and engagement with the planning officer and the council’s urban design advisor from the very beginning.
The house is designed with a rendered box that projects over an ashlar or cut limestone base that provides reference to the materials used in the surrounding area. The rear of the ground floor is largely glazed with a fantastic open plan living dining and kitchen space overlooking the private garden with large sliding doors. The first floor overhang provides sun shading to the large areas of glass. There is a further living room and utility/plant area at ground level with a grand staircase providing access to a double height gallery and 4 generous bedrooms.
