Thinking Buildings obtained planning permission for this site in central Cirencester in 2015. The site was a mix of commercial and residential, with a restaurant in the Grade II listed building fronting the street and a small residential development of seven units to the mews behind. We completed the restaurant early in 2016, and it is now a successful branch of the Cote brasserie group. Once the commercial portion was complete the original client sold the residential site with permission and so we are now working with the new owner to bring the project to fruition.
The 2- and 3-story houses will be constructed in traditional materials but to modern standards of energy efficiency. The architecture takes cues from the existing buildings in Cirencester, and arcaded coach houses, to form an urban Cotswold style. On a sensitive site in a historic town this was very much welcomed by the local authority planners, support which was key in obtaining consent for the scheme.
Thinking Buildings enjoy the challenges and opportunities of these mixed use urban sites and we look forward to bringing you more updates as the project progresses over the next year.
