School Premises Development Plans: Why are they needed?

One of Thinking Buildings key strengths is our expertise in preparing School Premises Development Plans, or PDP’s as we call them; the question is why do we do them and what use are they? In short, they provide key information to understand the condition & suitability of school premises, providing a vision and master-plan for school improvement, allowing shorter-term decisions to be made without hindering a school in the longer term.
Thinking Buildings have prepared multiple PDP’s in recent years for primary school sites. Many have turned into built projects such as the £3 million expansion of Fairford Primary school (currently in construction). The image shows the site masterplan developed from the PDP. We are currently working on 4 secondary school PDP’s for the Spencer Academy Trust. A typical study includes analysis of an existing school’s accommodation against the Government’s guidelines to provide a clear picture of shortfalls and surpluses. They provide school’s, Academy Trusts, Governors and County Councils with a clear strategic understanding of their schools and premises. Do get in touch if you know of a school that could benefit from understanding their premises better.
