We’ve submitted an application for this extension and refurbishment of a rural family home for a private domestic client in North Oxfordshire.
The client’s aim was to improve the ground floor entertaining and living space, and to rationalise the first-floor layout to provide a scheme suitable for a five-bed country home. Thinking Buildings approached this by providing a new wing to the property to provide a larger ground floor living room with direct connection to the garden, and a first-floor master suite. The new master suite also allowed the rationalisation of the other bedrooms, and to remove some previous subdivision of some rooms to provide four good sized bedrooms.
In order to give the client that wow factor we have included an oak framed glazed gable to the north face of the extension, maximising the views over the open countryside and providing the desired feeling of space to the first floor. The oak detailing is carried through the other windows on the extension, working in harmony with the traditional palette of stone and render for the existing house and new addition. Hopefully, the local authority planning department will agree!
