Rights of Lights can be a key factor and constraint when designing buildings. This is a particularly important consideration when developing urban sites that are often surrounded by existing building and mixed uses.
The image is of a large master-planning and site development scheme that we are currently working on. As part of our services the existing site surroundings has been ‘white card’ modelled to provide the base constraints where we can test and 3D model proposed massing solutions that avoid encroachment upon the rights of lights to adjoining properties. 3D modelling in this way has proved to be an invaluable tool when engaging with the planning authority, giving confidence that the impacts of the scheme has been fully considered and addressed. Our software allows us to put the building in the exact geographical position, with the correct north orientation and test the sun path at differing times of the year and day.
Hopefully we can provide an update on this exciting project as the design develops.
