This extensive refurbishment, extension and conversion project combined two Grade II listed ironstone cottages into a single house in Great Tew, Oxfordshire, one of the loveliest villages in Britain.
This high end project includes two front facing 2 storey gabled extensions and a side extension that accommodates a new open plan kitchen with master bedroom suite over. The majority of the existing loft has been converted into fantastic vaulted guest bedroom suite. The existing listed building has been fully renovated with fully re-constructed stone chimneys, stonework repairs to openings and external walls, refurbishment of existing historic windows and new traditional windows and doors. The new thatch roof incorporates conservation rooflights which was a first for the rooflight manufacturer and a really unique feature of the project.
Internally, a number of smaller rooms have been opened up to be more suited to modern living, the best example being the new 4 sided open fireplace that acts a centre-piece to the main living area of the house. This bespoke design by Thinking Buildings uses large slabs of natural ashlar stonework. The simple palette of materials is complimented well by the client’s stylish and elegant interior design.
Externally, Thinking Buildings designed a new landscaping scheme with a formal lawn, planter beds, parking court, orchard and woodland path.
