This project is part of an overall masterplan to develop and diversify the client’s existing farmstead and agricultural holding. This new farmhouse is the first phase in that masterplan, giving the family a modern home suited to the needs of a working farm.
The design was developed using architectural forms that are familiar in a farm setting with two clearly expressed elements. The curved roof Dutch barn providing the majority of the family’s living accommodation and a pitched roof lean to that forms a striking new entrance, farm office and ancillary accommodation. The farmhouse has 5 generous bedrooms, a formal living room, and a large open plan kitchen. The living and dining areas to the rear face west so enjoy expansive views that captures some spectacular sunsets.
The building is clad in highly durable Thermowood with high performance aluminium windows and doors. The entrance is framed in dark grey metal standing seam cladding. In combination with the with large format glazing the entrance is welcoming and creates a strong sense of arrival.
Thinking Buildings are currently working on the next phase of the masterplan, a complex of new holiday lets, which have just been granted planning permission. We will share more on these very soon.
